Tier 1 primary intervention in RTI²-B consists of behavior expectations, routines, and physical arrangements that are developed and taught by school faculty to prevent initial occurrences of behavior the school would like to target for change. 3-5 behavioral expectations that are positively stated, easy to remember, teachable, and measureable are best. An example of positive expectations is Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Ready. School teams post the behavioral expectations throughout school locations to prompt students to follow the expectations.
School teams build a matrix (graph) listing social skills that are anchored to each behavior expectation for areas in the school where appropriate behaviors are taught, modeled, practiced, and observed. Posters are displayed in designated areas of the building to prompt appropriate behaviors.
